If you’ve missed out on the massive discounts that Singles Day offered earlier this month, don’t fret. The massive sales Black Friday and Cyber Monday may have originated in the United States but have now become worldwide phenomenons. And yes, in case it wasn’t obvious, Black Friday is today and is just starting in the US.
But while Black Friday was originally about actually going out to brick-and-mortar stores to shop, and Cyber Monday (in three days’ time) was all about online shopping, these days the lines have totally blurred. Here are some great Black Friday deals from the biggest e-commerce platforms, both local and overseas.
Qoo10 is one of several Singapore-based online marketplaces you’ll find on this list. Like so many of these websites, it’s really a place where you can get just about anything. Thousands of merchants are using Qoo10 as a platform to sell everything from fashion and beauty to food to baby products and, of course, electronics.
This Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Qoo10’s merchants are giving up to 80% in discounts on their wide variety of products. But what’s more interesting is that, Qoo10 themselves will be offering discount coupons of up to $100, depending on your purchase amount. To enjoy the maximum Black Friday discount of $100, for example, you will need a minimum purchase of $600.
So what should I consider buying at Qoo10 this Black Friday?
Without a doubt, one of the most enticing offers is the newly launched Xiaomi Mi MIX, a 6.4-inch smartphone that boasts an impressive 91.3% screen to body ratio. That basically means your phone is all screen, almost no edges! While the phone was launched in China earlier this month, it’s probably going to be a while before it launches internationally.
But thanks to Qoo10’s Black Friday sale, you can now get the Xiaomi Mi MIX 4Gb RAM + 128 Gb internal storage from a Hong Kong-based supplier. The original retail price is $1,299, but with the merchant discount and Qoo10’s additional Black Friday $100 discount, you can get it for just S$935. Shipping costs an extra $10 per phone.
But be quick, as there are only 22 4Gb RAM handsets left (at time of publishing), with even less of the 6Gb RAM, 256 Gb internal storage, 18-karat gold version. The Black Friday sale ends tonight, but look out for Qoo10’s Cyber Monday sales starting tomorrow till 28th November.

Lazada is another popular online shopping marketplace, and it’s as Singaporean as it gets. You can find just about everything you need here, and beginning with Singles Day earlier this month, and now for Black Friday and Cyber Monday, they’re claiming discounts of up to 90%.
They’re currently having limited-time flash sales, and some of these products are pretty impressive – currently, there’s a Dyson tower fan going for just $499, and a Crucial MX300 750 Gb just sold out – it was going at $172.
So what should I consider buying at Lazada this Black Friday?
Lazada has organised their Black Friday and Cyber Monday page into four main categories: Beauty Fanatics, Family Superstars, Tech Lovers and Trendsetters. In the Tech Lovers section, there’s an iRobot Roomba 770, one of those adorable (okay, maybe only to me) robotic vacuum cleaners going for $623, a 20% discount off the usual price of $780.

From Singaporean online marketplaces, we move to THE British online fashion store. Proving that Black Friday and Cyber Monday are truly worldwide phenomenons now, ASOS is offering 20% off their entire store with the code GOGOGO.
They offer free express shipping to Singaporefor transactions over S$250. What’s more, with free returns from Singapore, there’s no need to worry about your clothes not quite looking as good on you as you hoped.
So what should I consider buying at ASOS this Black Friday?
Because the entirety of ASOS is on sale, it’s really up to you how you want to stock up your wardrobe. At the risk of offering a huge fashion faux pas for possibly suggesting something out of season from The Jetset Diaries, which marries luxury with a nomadic feel, and some of their items are at relatively low prices.
This black Pizzo Mini Dress, for example, is only S$72.85! And that’s before the 20% sitewide discount if you use the code GOGOGO at checkout. That said, quantities are limited, and right now there’s only UK 6 (XS) size available, but that’s no problem for many women in Singapore.
No list of online marketplaces would be complete without the mother of all online marketplaces, Amazon. Based in the US, the home of the Black Friday sale, it’s no surprise that they would have some crazy discounts.
Unfortunately, not everything can be shipped internationally, so you might want to make sure that you refine your search to items that can “Ship To Singapore” before you go crazy.
So what should I consider buying at Amazon this Black Friday?
Consider taking advantage of the crazy discounts to get something from Samsung, like the newbie-friendly Samsung Galaxy Tab E, a 9.6″ tablet with 16 Gb internal storage and Wifi capability. Yes, it’s already a year old, but at US$150, it’s really much cheaper than getting it from Lazada, for example. Plus, if you’re getting it as a gift for someone who just wants to watch Korean dramas all day long, you don’t reallhy need cutting edge technology.

Here are 2 things to remember when ordering stuff online
Just before you take advantage of the deep discounts available online, do take note of these two things:
- When buying items from overseas, remember that 7% GST is chargeble on orders costing $400 or more. That’s includes the cost of the items as well as the shipping cost. So do factor that into the total cost, or ensure that your total value of your order doesn’t exceed $400.
- For more savings, use a credit card that rewards you for online transactions, like the Standard Chartered Singpost Platinum Visa, which gives you 7% cashback assuming you meet the minimum monthly spend of $600.
