Best credit card for SPC petrol discount – UOB One Card
The good news is that the UOB One Card offers not just the best SPC credit card discount, but also one of the best petrol discounts across all petrol brands.
There is, however, a catch. In order to qualify for the maximum discount of 24%, you will have to be able to meet their minimum spending requirement of $2,000 a month and make a minimum of 5 transactions every statement month in a quarter.
If you don’t manage to meet the $2,000 minimum spending requirement but still spend over $500 each month, you’ll qualify for lower card rebates of up to 3.33% instead of 5%, which is still not too shabby.
The good news is that this is a card you can use on just about anything, since meeting the $2,000 minimum spending requirement gets you a very generous 5% rebate on ALL your spending. That’s powerful enough to justify making this your one, go-to credit card for every single spending category.
Actually, there’s another catch: you’ll have to make sure you spend at least $51 each time you fill up your tank, otherwise you’ll lose a 5% discount.
Do note that the maximum rebates you can earn in a quarter are $300 in total. That means you should avoid spending way above the $2,000 minimum spending mark.
Jumping through all these hoops is worth it, however, as the 24% rebate is one of the best SPC credit card discounts you can get.
Here’s how much you save with the UOB One Card on SPC petrol depending on your monthly expenditure:
Monthly expenditure | $2,000 | $1,000 | $200 |
SPC&U Card Discount | 10% | 10% | 10% |
Card Discount | 5% | 5% | 5% |
$200 worth of petrol after discounts | $170 | $170 | $170 |
Additional $3 off for every $51 nett spent | $9 | $9 | $9 |
Card Rebate (applies after all discounts) | 5% ($8.5) | 3.3% ($5.61) | – |
Total savings | 23.75% | 22.3% | 19.5% |
As you can see, pumping $200 worth of petrol will get you 23.75% savings, which is less than the 24% that is advertised. This is because the nett amount is not exactly $51, or in multiples of $51.
You also get either 5% or 3.3% rebate on all your other spending if you hit the minimum spend. You would need to spend consistently for 3 statement months in one quarter, and transact a minimum of 5 purchases a month.
