The good news is that the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) has approved 35 hotels for staycations. To put your mind at ease, all hotels must meet the government’s stringent requirements before being allowed to reopen, including the following:
- Be able to limit occupancy to no more than 1 person per 10sqm (excluding staff) at any point in time, and abide by more stringent measures in areas where guests and staff spend more time
- Reduce face-to-face mingling amongst guests, between employees and between staff and guests through staggered timing in common areas such as hotel lobbies, guest facilities and employee areas
- Ability to disperse crowds and prevent bunching
- Mandatory implementation of SafeEntry and encourage use of Trace Together
- Implement rigorous cleaning and disinfecting regimes especially for high touch elements
STB approved hotels for staycation 2020
As of 29 July 2020, STB has a whopping 155 hotels on their list of approved hotels. More hotels are expected to be added to the list in the coming weeks.

What to do during your staycation
Hotel stays usually come with some perks when you dine or use facilities on the premises. So, max out on those freebies and discounts by doing the following:
- Dine at hotel restaurants – This is an especially good deal if your hotel stay entitles you to free meals or dining credits.
- Visit the spa – Hotel guests often get a discount on massages and other spa services.
- Use the pool – At certain hotels like MBS, the pool is an attraction in itself, so don’t forget to pack your swimsuit.

Safety precautions by hotels
Hotels now have to abide by a whole slew of safety precautions to make sure guests and staff don’t potentially spread the virus around. Here are some of the key measures you can expect:
- Screening of every individual for COVID-19 symptoms before they are allowed to enter the hotel. Basically, prepare to have your temperature taken.
- Staggered check-in and check-out timing so you don’t crowd with other guests at the front desk.
- There must be at least 10sqm of space per guest in the lobby area.
- Gatherings of more than 5 people in any guest room are not allowed, unless all the people in the room live at the same address.
- 1 metre spacing between individuals in queues, seated in lobbies and in the lift.
- Frequent cleaning and disinfecting of common areas, including high-touch areas like handrails, door handles, reception counters and lift buttons.
- Access to shared facilities will be controlled to minimise interaction between guests in different rooms.
- Bed linen, carpets and upholstery will be deep cleaned, and frequently touched surfaces like light switches, door handles, TV remotes and thermostats will be disinfected.
- All guest rooms will be equipped with disinfecting agents like hand sanitisers.
