The dining scene in Singapore is certainly growing at a very healthy rate, if credit card spend is anything to go by. Dining spend in Singapore has surpassed retail expenditure in the past few years, and if that’s not evidence enough, then the Michelin Guide finally coming to Singapore after all these years should be an indication that we’ve arrived.
With that in mind, the proliferation of more chi-chi, atas (read: EXPENSIVE) restaurants is a natural evolution. If you’re sick and tired of seeing your Instagram Stories flooded with pictures of all this amazing food and not getting to actually taste it, it’s time to get in on the action, and we’ve got just the solution for you.
With apps like the Entertainer, which gives you 1 for 1 main courses in a multitude of restaurants, as well as the American Express Platinum Credit Card with its Love Dining program that offers 50% off for 2 patrons, you no longer have to worry about burning a hole in your pocket just to have a nice dinner out with your significant other.
The Entertainer app can be purchased at a flat fee which you will easily recoup in savings with just 1-2 meals, and the Love Dining benefits come free with your American Express Platinum Credit Card. As someone who loves good food, I can’t even begin to tell you how good a deal this is. If you are interested in the card, you can easily apply here.
But for now, let’s look at some of the restaurants you could be feasting at for half the price:
1. Kinki Restaurant + Bar (Love Dining/Entertainer)
70 Collyer Quay #02-02 Customs House
This popular Japanese restaurant serving modern Japanese cuisine can be found on both the Entertainer as well as the Love Dining program, but to really maximize the benefits, use your American Express Platinum Card to enjoy 50% off your bill. You can indulge in some amazing food and pair that with a selection of their own bespoke cocktails, or some Japanese sake.
2. Fat Cow (Entertainer)
1 Orchard Boulevard #01-01/02, Camden Medical Centre
One of the mainstays on the Entertainer app, this place is a must-go if you have bought the app. Imagine melt-in-your-mouth A4 grade wagyu beef from Miyazaki prefecture at half the price. The lovely U-shaped seating arrangement also makes for a good view of the cooking process, which can only serve to whet your appetite even more.
Quick tip: make sure you try the yuzu sorbet as well after your meal. Amazingly light and a great end to a lovely meal.
3. Lawry’s The Prime Rib (Love Dining)
333A Orchard Road #04-01/31 Mandarin Gallery
From Japanese steak to good ol’ USDA Prime Rib, the Love Dining program offers an indulgent experience at this longstanding popular steak joint. Having moved from its previous premises at Paragon Shopping Centre, Lawry’s the Prime Rib still offers the same awesome dining experience, with patrons not just enjoying their meal but also the unique experience. If you’ve never had their Famous Original Spinning Bowl Salad, you’re in for a treat. Just make sure you come with an empty stomach.
4. Sum Yi Tai (Entertainer)
25 Boon Tat St
One of the latest hip joints to go to in the CBD, this eclectic joint offers a lovely mix of Chinese tapas and cocktails. If you bought the Cheers app together with the Entertainer, you can even enjoy 1-for-1 deals on a bottle of wine, cocktails or a house beverage.
5. The Song of India (Love Dining)
33 Scotts Road
One of the 2 Indian restaurants in Asia to receive a Michelin Star, this quaint restaurant located in a rustic bungalow along Scotts Road mixes traditional cooking methods with modern techniques and styles to bring out a flavourful and very photogenic meal. You can definitely expect a mix of tastes and ingredients, presented in a way that sets this place apart from all the other Indian restaurants in Singapore.
6. Burlamacco Ristorante (Love Dining)
77 Amoy Street
Chef Gabriele Piegaia is one of the veterans of the Italian food scene in Singapore. Having honed his craft at several Michelin-starred restaurants in Italy, he has infused the food at Burlamacco with his Tuscan heritage, while still having a fine understanding of the Singaporean palate. After previous stints at Senso, Hotel Michael and Alkaff Mansion, Chef Piegaia has an extensive mix of dishes that has seen this restaurant remain a favourite amongst the CBD crowd since it’s inception in 2012.
