The Best 1-for-1 Buffet Dining Promotions in Singapore 2018

I’m probably going to get into trouble with the Health Promotion Board for writing this, but I do love a good buffet. Not only are they deliciously overwhelming, they are also my go-to suggestions when dining with finicky people. No one has to take responsibility for anyone else’s experience – unless it’s damn jia lat, in which case everyone can complain and get the runs together.

The problem is, nice buffets are expensive unless you have a 1-for-1 or 50% off deal. Luckily, with the current spate of promotions in Singapore, you can get half-price hotel buffets with practically any card.

In compiling this list, I focused only on the biggest discounts, i.e. 1-for-1 buffet and 50% off food bill. There are plenty of smaller discounts but we ignored those because obviously everyone wants the most bang for your buck. The deals are sorted by expiry date, then by price.

Always check the terms and conditions first. Typically you have to call to reserve, quote your bank name to secure the discount (because it may be limited to X number of patrons a day) and pay using that card. Usually both credit or debit cards are accepted as long as it’s from the partner bank.

DBS/POSB dining promotions 2018

It’s a pity that DBS/POSB concluded a big dining promotion called It’s Dinner Time (until 30 April 2018). There were a lot to choose from, and although most of them have expired, some have extended validity until December 2018.

At the moment, the only DBS/POSB-exclusive restaurant is Carlton Hotel’s Cafe Mosaic. The others – like Kintamani Indonesian Restaurant and Triple Three – have tie-ups with quite a few other banks.

UOB dining promotions 2018

UOB has the most 1-for-1 buffet deals and dining promotions now – the only bank that has a comparable number of deals is HSBC. However, HSBC requires you purchase The Entertainer subscription ($5) to unlock the 1-for-1 deals, which is a real bummer.

Aside from the usual hotels, UOB has a promotion for Shangri-La Hotel’s The Line (only on Mondays, though). There’s also Shabu Tan Japanese Hotpot for the wagyu beef lovers – at just $49.95++ to $54.95++ per pax, it’s really quite worth it.

OCBC dining promotions 2018

Next up is OCBC – there was just recently 50% off buffets at Fairmont and Swissotel, but they ended on 31 May 2018. Promos at these atas hotels are hard to come by because both hotels are usually exclusive to the Far Card (which I’ll cover at the bottom of the article in the Amex section).

After those 2 expired, we’re left with these:

Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza Hotel – Marriott Cafe 1-for-1 high tea & dinner buffet High tea: $22.50++ (Mon to Fri) / $24++ (Sat to Sun)

Maybank dining promotions 2018

Maybank is pretty new to the dining promotions game but with their current dining campaign, Maybank’s offering some pretty competitive deals

In fact, Maybank actually has quite an impressive number of hotel partners and buffets, but only a few are 1-for-1. The rest typically require 2 to 4 paying adults to “earn” the discount. Have a look at the most bang-for-buck 1-for-1 buffet deals below:

Restaurant Promotion Price per adult (after discount) Expiry
Hotel Fort Canning – The Salon 1-for-1 breakfast buffet $17.50++ 30 Sep 2018

Standard Chartered dining promotions 2018

StanChart has an ongoing Dine For 2 campaign with a number of 1-for-1 dining deals at various participating restaurants. However, most of them are for main courses, so your bill can easily inflate once you add in drinks, dessert and what-not.

I’ve highlighted only the buffet deals here. Standard Chartered’s dining deals seem to change every 1 to 2 months, and I’ve noticed that for the more popular hotels (like Marriott Cafe and Swissotel Merchant Court, which expired before April 2018), the 1-for-1 buffet promotions have a shorter campaign period.

Sadly, there’s only 1 deal at the moment (and it expires this month!).

Restaurant Promotion Price per adult (after discount) Expiry
Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel – Food Capital   1-for-1 lunch & dinner buffet Lunch: $32++ (Sun to Fri) / $33.30++ (Sat)

Dinner: $38++ (Mon to Thu) / $42++ (Fri to Sun)

American Express dining promotions 2018

The Amex dining programme Love Dining (which also includes Far Card membership) is famous among foodies as it gives you up to 50% off at atas restaurants and hotel buffets in Singapore. Unfortunately it’s limited to American Express Platinum cardholders. There’s a hefty annual fee attached to the card and you can only get it waived if you’re a really big spender. If you have the card, bring 1 friend to maximise your discounts at the following restaurants.

Restaurant Promotion Price per adult (after discount)
Four Seasons – One-Ninety Restaurant 50% off food bill for 2 people Lunch: $21++ (semi-buffet, appetisers only) / $26++ (semi-buffet incl. main course)
Conrad Centennial – Oscar’s 50% off food bill for 2 people Lunch: $29.50++ (Mon to Sat)

Is your favourite 1-for-1 buffet restaurant fully booked? Try The Entertainer, Eatigo, Chope, Fave

Aside from the promotional validity dates, many of these promotions are limited to a certain number of diners per day or promotional period. If for whatever reason you’re not able to get a seat, don’t panic – there are other dining apps to help you save on that buffet feast.

The Entertainer

The Entertainer focuses on 1-for-1 deals, which is our absolute favourite kind of discount. Subscription costs $75 and currently, you can get 1-for-buffet deals at Shin Minori, Katong Kitchen, Straits Cafe and more. As an added bonus, the partner merchants aren’t restricted to restaurants and cafes, too – so you can expect beauty, fashion and fitness deals as well.

$75 is kind of steep, but you can get 10% off subscription with promo code MONEYSMART2018, making it $67.50. If you drink like a fish, the 10% off also extends to Cheers, which is the sister app for bars and pubs.

Eatigo

Eatigo is an online restaurant reservation service that offers discounts based on what time you dine. Check out the full list of hotel buffet deals at their website.

The off-peak hours typically offer the most discounts, but that’s not always the case: Currently, you can dine for half-price at J65 at Hotel Jen Tanglin and Ellenborough Market Cafe at Swissotel Merchant Court from 6.30pm onwards. Others like Azur at Crown Plaza Changi Airport require you to wait until 8.30pm for the 50% off.

Chope

Like Eatigo, Chope reservation service that happens to also offer exclusive discounts for their users. Chope is currently having a tie-up with Visa, offering many value-for-money buffet deals. The catch is that you’ll need to pre-purchase discounted dining vouchers to enjoy the discounts.

Some participating restaurants include Gyuu+ and Shabu Tan Japanese hotpot, both of which are famous for their wagyu beef buffets.

Fave

Fave is the new Groupon, and while they’ve expanded their services to include a lot of new things like FavePay, they still sell discounted dining vouchers.

They may not have a dedicated 1-for-1 buffet section (they go on a discount basis), but some restaurants offer up to 60% and up, which is an even better deal. Checkout the current promotions here.

And that’s it! You’re all set to eat your way around Singapore. Just don’t forget to bring the right credit card along.

I used to be MoneyDumb. I hung out at H&M every day and thought that a $50 lunch set was a good deal. These days, I spend my time researching the crap out of life and trying to maximise utility on micro-decisions. I'm not sure if that's an improvement.
