Online shopping has become a routine in my life, even more so with this “new normal” of stay-at-home activities that Covid-19 has brought about.
I’m always ready for a sale — 7.7, 8.8, 9.9… bring it on. My virtual shopping basket is perpetually filled with items that I hope to own — only if the price is right, of course. Once the right figure appears, I’m all primed to hit checkout and pay.
But not all sales are created equal. There’s the occasional 10% off promotion, but seasoned shoppers will know to hang on for the main event for the deepest discounts.
Some highly-anticipated events are Black Friday on 27 Nov, 11.11 AKA Singles Day in China — and of course, Amazon Prime Day, whose date is always a mystery until it’s heard straight from the horse’s mouth.
A short primer on Amazon Prime Day and its Singapore debut
In 2015, Amazon introduced Prime Day as part of its 20th anniversary celebrations. Exclusively for Prime members, Prime Day is a 48-hour full-on deals fest where tons of items go on sale, on top of existing Prime member perks such as free delivery and exclusive access to other Amazon services.
When Amazon first came here in Singapore in 2017, Amazon Prime members enjoyed Prime Day with Prime Now for 2 years. This year’s Prime Day will be different — Prime members can also shop on Amazon.sg, a dedicated Amazon Singapore site that was launched last year.
In my opinion, Prime Day this year comes at a perfect time so we can snag Christmas gifts for our friends and family at fantastic prices. And you don’t need to worry about clashing with November sales events, a possible delivery bottleneck…and your presents arriving late.
Psst… this year, Prime members get to pick from thousands of deals across products from many of our favourite brands. Think big names like Dyson, JBL, Fitbit, as well as small- and medium-sized businesses like home-grown cult skincare brands PORCELAIN and Dr Plant.
