Last year, MoneySmart announced the launch of SmartRewards, our very own rewards programme that gives you the ultimate flexibility to choose the gifts you want.
At the heart of the programme is SmartPoints, our rewards currency. They’re the magic beans that power the SmartRewards programme. You earn SmartPoints when you apply for a financial product and use them to redeem gifts from our Rewards Store.
How do you earn SmartPoints? How do they work, and what can you redeem with them? Today, we’re spilling the beans.
1. What are SmartPoints?
SmartPoints is our rewards currency. When you apply for selected financial products on MoneySmart, you’ll earn SmartPoints. These will be credited into your MoneySmart account for you to redeem rewards with. (More on that later!)
You might be wondering, why SmartPoints? SmartPoints offer you total flexibility. You decide how to use them, whether it’s for everyday essentials or special luxury items you’ve always wanted. With SmartPoints, you’re in control of what, when, and how you redeem your rewards.
2. What can you redeem with SmartPoints?
SmartPoints open the door to a whole library of gifts you can take home. These include:
- Apple products like iPads, iPhones, AirPods, AirPods Max, MacBook Air and more
- Electronics like the Insta360 Ace Pro, ECOVACS DEEBOT N30 Pro OMNI (an auto-emptying and washing robot vacuum), and the LUMOS AURO V2 Home Cinema Projector
- Office equipment such as smart monitors, smart desks, and ergonomic chairs from ErgoTune, Hinomi, and TTRacing
- E-vouchers from Amazon, Shopee, NTUC FairPrice, IseTan, GrabGifts and more
- KrisFlyer miles—this one’s for all you miles chasers!

3. How do you earn SmartPoints?
You earn SmartPoints when you apply for selected financial products on MoneySmart. This includes credit cards like these fan favourites:
The Citi PremierMiles Card earns you up to 10 Citi Miles per S$1 on online travel bookings via Kaligo and Agoda. If you apply for this card and meet the spend criteria, you can earn up to and are the first 5 claim form submissions 12,280 SmartPoints from now to 28 Oct 2024. That’s enough for not just 1, but 2 Apple iPads (Wi-Fi, 10th Generation, 64GB).
Another good miles card is the HSBC TravelOne Card, which earns you miles at a rate of 2.4 miles per dollar on foreign spend and grants you free airport lounge access. Bag 3,500 SmartPoints with this card.
Prefer cashback to miles? The Standard Chartered Simply Cash Credit Card gives you fuss-free unlimited cashback that’s upsized to 2% for a limited time.
You’ll earn 5,040 SmartPoints or $370 cash via PayNow when you sign up and spend $500 within 30 days on the Standard Chartered Simply Cash Credit Card. You can use those SmartPoints to redeem a Secretlab TITAN Evo Lite ergonomic chair worth $519.
What if you want bigger gifts like a MacBook Air or Sony BRAVIA TV? Another way you can add SmartPoints to your account is to purchase them on the MoneySmart store. This gives you the option to top up SmartPoints and redeem them for a huge gift. Overall, you’ll only pay for the SmartPoints top-up, which is a fraction of the item’s retail value.
4. How to redeem your favourite gifts using SmartPoints
There are 3 ways you can use SmartPoints:
- Redeem a gift in full
- Redeem 2 or more gifts
- Use SmartPoints to get a big discount, topping up the remaining with cash
Redeem a gift in full
If you’ve accumulated enough SmartPoints, you can redeem a gift outright without spending a single dollar. Whether it’s a new gadget or shopping voucher, you have the freedom to fully cover the cost with your SmartPoints. It’s the simplest and most straightforward way to treat yourself.
Redeem 2 or more gifts
Have more SmartPoints to spare? Don’t just settle for 1 gift—redeem any combination of gifts by splitting your points between multiple items. This maximises your rewards haul, letting you diversify and enjoy more from your SmartPoints.
Use SmartPoints to get a big discount
This method is the perfect option when you’re eyeing a high-value item—say, a brand new iPhone. If you don’t have enough SmartPoints to redeem it in full, no worries. You can still use your SmartPoints to significantly reduce the price of it and pay the remaining amount in cash. Your SmartPoints help you to offset the total cost of the item, and you just need to top up for the remaining SmartPoints. Purchase SmartPoints on our Rewards Store at a rate of $10 for 100 SmartPoints.
For example, an Apple Watch Series 10 (42mm GPS) retails for $599 and is redeemable for 7,010 SmartPoints on our Rewards Store. If you earn 6,140 SmartPoints from your Citi PremierMiles Card application and use them on the AirPods Max, only need to top up $90 for the remaining 870 SmartPoints. Essentially, you’re getting a sleek new Apple Watch for just $90.
5. When will I receive my redeemed rewards?
When you redeem a physical product, it usually takes up to 21 working days for delivery after your order is confirmed. Keep in mind that this is just an estimate, and delivery times may vary due to factors outside of MoneySmart and the courier’s control.
For digital vouchers, you’ll receive them via email within 7 working days after payment is completed.
If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out to us at [email protected]—we’re here to help.
6. How long does the whole process take?
From the day you sign up for a financial product to the day you receive your redeemed reward, the entire process can take 3 months or more. For credit cards, it depends on various factors during the process—here’s a rough idea of what that will look like:
- The bank will approve your card application—this could be as fast as within a day, and you can usually use your credit card digitally before you get the physical one in the mail.
- You need to meet the minimum spend criteria—this can be over a 30-day period for some cards but a 2- or 3-month one for others.
- The bank will give confirmation of your spending
- You submit the claim form
- We process your claim and credit the SmartPoints to your account. This can be as fast as 5 weeks for cards like the Citi Cash Back+ Card.
- Your redeem your reward(s) using your SmartPoints
- We process the redemption, taking up to 7 days for digital vouchers and 21 days for delivery of physical items.
For example, if you apply for the Citi Cash Back+ Card, you’ll need to spend $500 within 30 days to meet the minimum spend requirement. After the bank confirms your spending and you submit your claim form, you can receive your SmartPoints in as fast as 5 weeks. If you immediately use them to redeem an iPad, you should receive it within 3 weeks. All in all, the process will take you at least 3 months to complete.
