HL Assurance Travel Protect360 is one of the few travel insurance plans in Singapore that lets you customise your coverage with three genuinely useful add-ons: pre-existing medical conditions, faster flight delay payouts, and protection for your frequent flyer miles. That last one is particularly rare—most insurers simply don't cover it.
But does the core coverage hold up on its own? With over 60 travel insurance plans from 21 providers in Singapore to compare against, we put Travel Protect360 through its paces—scrutinising every benefit, benchmarking it against the Singapore market median, and asking the honest question: is it actually worth your money?

[ms-toc title="HL Assurance Travel Protect360—MoneySmart Review (2026)"]
1. What plan tiers does HL Assurance Travel Protect360 offer?
Travel Protect360 comes in 4 tiers—Basic, Silver, Gold, and Platinum—available as single trip or annual multi-trip plans:
And by traveller type:
A few things worth noting upfront. First, COVID-19 coverage is only included from Silver onwards—the Basic plan does not cover COVID-related medical expenses or trip disruptions at all. If pandemic cover matters to you, Basic is off the table. Second, pre-existing medical conditions are not covered by default on any tier, but all four plans offer it as an optional add-on—which is actually more flexible than most competitors who either exclude it entirely or only offer it on their highest tiers.
2. Is the coverage worth the price you pay?
Pricing-wise, HL Assurance sits broadly in line with the market. The Silver plan at $79 sits just above the Singapore market median of $70 for a 7-day ASEAN trip. At the other end, the Platinum at $135 is the most expensive plan available from any provider in our comparison—though it's matched at the top end by DBS TravellerShield Plus Platinum at $124 and Chubb First at $126.
Here's how the key coverage areas break down against the market:
- Overseas medical expenses: The Silver plan's $250,000 falls below the Singapore median of $500,000—which is a meaningful gap if you're heading somewhere with high medical costs like the US or Japan. Gold hits the median exactly, and Platinum's $750,000 is well above average though short of market leaders like Singlife Prestige (unlimited). The Basic plan's $150,000 is below median, which is acceptable for short ASEAN hops but would leave you underinsured in a serious emergency further afield.
- Emergency medical evacuation: A genuine standout—Unlimited evacuation cover across all 4 tiers, including Basic. Most competitors only offer unlimited evacuation from their mid-tier plans upwards. This is one of the strongest features of Travel Protect360 and meaningfully reduces your financial exposure in a worst-case scenario.
- Trip cancellation: At $5,000 (Basic), $7,000 (Silver), $12,000 (Gold) and $15,000 (Platinum), these limits are solid. Silver's $7,000 is below the $10,000 median but covers most standard trips. Gold and Platinum are at or near the top of the market. Note that airline insolvency is excluded across all tiers.
- Travel delay: All 4 plans pay $1,000 maximum at $100 per 6 hours—right at the Singapore median. It's consistent but not exceptional. If you want faster payouts, the optional add-on reduces the trigger from 6 hours to 3 hours (more on that below).
- Baggage loss: Basic at $3,000 and Silver at $5,000 (the market median) are both reasonable. Gold ($7,000) and Platinum ($8,000) are at the top of the market, matching Income Preferred and DBS TravellerShield Plus Platinum.
- Baggage delay: Basic ($800) is below the $1,000 median. Silver and Gold hit $1,000 and $1,200 respectively, while Platinum's $1,500 is above median—though short of the $5,000 high end offered by DirectAsia.
On balance, Travel Protect360 is best understood as a solid mid-market plan with one standout feature (unlimited evacuation across all tiers) and one meaningful gap (COVID cover absent from Basic). The Gold plan at $106 represents the sweet spot—it hits or exceeds the market median on most key benefits at a price that's firm but not extreme.
3. COVID-19 coverage
COVID-19 protection is included in the Silver, Gold, and Platinum plans only. The Basic plan has no COVID-19 cover.
The COVID-19 medical limits are generous, particularly on Gold ($150,000) and Platinum ($200,000). Silver's $50,000 is more modest but sufficient for most destinations. The quarantine allowances and overseas hospital cash benefits are a practical bonus for longer trips where an unexpected positive test could mean days stuck in a hotel or hospital abroad.
One thing to watch: HL Assurance's COVID-19 cover applies under the same policy T&Cs as the rest of the plan. Check the policy wording for specific conditions around vaccination requirements and government-mandated quarantine scenarios.
4. Adventure sports and optional add-ons
What's covered by default
Travel Protect360 covers leisure scuba diving (up to 30 metres depth) across all 4 tiers. That's a useful default for divers heading to Bali, the Maldives, or the Philippines.
However, HL Assurance takes a notably conservative stance on adventure sports compared to many competitors. The following are not covered under any tier, with or without add-ons:
- Bungee jumping
- Skydiving
- Hot air ballooning
- Hiking / trekking
- Snow and ice sports
This is a meaningful restriction. Insurers like Income, Great Eastern, DBS TravellerShield Plus, Tokio Marine, and MSIG all cover several of these activities by default. If you're planning a ski trip to Japan or a trekking holiday in Nepal, Travel Protect360 is not the right plan.

Optional add-ons
Where Travel Protect360 does stand out is in its 3 optional add-ons, which HL Assurance claims are the first to be offered together as a bundle by any insurer in Singapore:
The pre-existing conditions add-on offers meaningful coverage limits that scale with your tier:
Note that follow-up treatment in Singapore is explicitly not covered under this add-on—you'll need to factor that in when deciding whether it's sufficient for your needs.
The frequent flyer miles add-on is rare in the Singapore market. If you use miles for premium cabin bookings or expensive redemptions, this is worth serious consideration—losing a business class redemption to an unexpected cancellation without any recourse is a real and costly risk.
5. What to look out for in the terms and conditions
A few things in the fine print that deserve attention:
- COVID-19 is not covered under the Basic plan. This is clearly stated in the policy, but easy to miss when comparing at speed. If you're buying Basic, you are entirely unprotected against COVID-related medical expenses, cancellations, or quarantine costs.
- Adventure sports exclusions are broader than most competitors. Even common activities like hiking and hot air ballooning are excluded. If your trip involves any physical activity beyond leisure swimming and scuba diving (within 30m), check the exclusions carefully before buying.
- Airline insolvency is excluded from trip cancellation. If your airline collapses before your trip, you cannot claim under the trip cancellation benefit. This is in line with most Singapore insurers but worth knowing.
- Pre-existing conditions add-on does not cover follow-up treatment in Singapore. The add-on covers you for emergencies while overseas—but if you need ongoing treatment after returning home, that's on you.
- No cover for air miles, points, or rewards. If you paid for your flight or hotel using credit card points or airline miles, you cannot claim compensation for those under any benefit. Only actual cash expenditure is claimable.
- Submit claims within 30 days of the incident. HL Assurance requires all supporting documentation to be submitted within 30 days. Missing this window risks having your claim rejected outright. Keep receipts, medical certificates, and airline delay letters as you go.
- Baggage delay benefit and baggage loss benefit cannot both be claimed. If you ultimately claim for lost baggage, your baggage delay payout becomes void. The delay benefit is only payable if no lost baggage claim is subsequently made.
- No claim discount (NCD) applies to single trip policies only. If you make no claims within 30 days of your policy end date, you're eligible for up to 10% off your next single trip policy. A small but nice loyalty incentive.
6. Claims process
HL Assurance handles claims through their online claims portal. There's no app-based claims submission—everything is done via their website.
Key points to remember:
- File your claim within 30 days of the incident. Documentation submitted late may result in claim rejection.
- Have all supporting documents ready before submitting—missing paperwork will delay processing, as HL Assurance can only begin reviewing once everything is received.
- For 24-hour emergency assistance while overseas (medical emergencies, evacuation, hospitalisation), call the emergency hotline listed on your policy certificate. This is separate from the claims process.
- For general claims enquiries, contact HL Assurance through their website at hlas.com.sg.
7. HL Assurance vs FWD travel insurance
FWD travel insurance is one of the most popular budget travel insurance options in Singapore and a natural comparison point. Here's how Travel Protect360 stacks up:
The comparison reveals some clear trade-offs. FWD is considerably cheaper across the board and offers stronger overseas medical limits at equivalent price points—FWD Business at $55 gives you $500,000 in medical cover versus HL Assurance Silver at $79 for $250,000. FWD also covers a much wider range of recreational activities by default, including bungee jumping, skydiving, and trekking, with no add-on required.
Where HL Assurance wins is in COVID-19 cover (included in 3 of 4 tiers versus an add-on with FWD), the pre-existing conditions add-on (unavailable from FWD entirely), and the frequent flyer miles add-on (also unavailable from FWD). Travel delay coverage across all HL Assurance tiers is also capped at a consistent $1,000—higher than FWD's entry-level $300 and mid-tier $800.
On the whole, the right choice comes down to your protection needs. FWD is the better choice for most budget-conscious travellers or those wanting adventure sports cover. HL Assurance makes more sense if COVID coverage in the base price, pre-existing conditions flexibility, or miles protection are priorities for you.

9. Should you get HL Assurance Travel Protect360?
Pros:
- Unlimited emergency medical evacuation across all 4 tiers, including the entry-level Basic plan
- COVID-19 cover included in the base price (Silver, Gold, Platinum)—no extra add-on needed
- Pre-existing conditions add-on available on all tiers—one of the few insurers to offer this flexibility
- Frequent flyer miles protection add-on is genuinely rare in the Singapore market
- Faster flight delay payouts (every 3 hours) available as an optional upgrade
- No Claim Discount (up to 10% off your next single trip policy) rewards claims-free travel
- Strong baggage loss limits at Gold ($7,000) and Platinum ($8,000)
Cons:
- Basic plan has no COVID-19 cover—a notable gap given most competitors include it
- Adventure sports coverage is very limited: no hiking, bungee jumping, skydiving, hot air ballooning, or snow sports under any tier
- Silver plan's overseas medical cover ($250,000) is below the Singapore market median ($500,000)
- Priced above budget competitors like FWD for equivalent core coverage
- No claim possible for bookings paid with air miles, points, or loyalty rewards
- Claims must be filed within a strict 30-day window
Who is this plan best for?
HL Assurance Travel Protect360 is best suited for:
- Travellers with pre-existing medical conditions who need the flexibility of an add-on rather than a one-size-fits-all approach
- Frequent flyers who accumulate airline miles and want protection against losing valuable redemptions to unexpected cancellations
- Leisure divers heading to Bali, the Maldives, or the Philippines—scuba diving is covered by default on all tiers
- Travellers who prefer COVID-19 cover baked into the base premium (on Silver and above) rather than as a separately priced add-on
- Anyone who prioritises unlimited evacuation cover at even the most basic tier
It's less suitable for adventure travellers, ski-trip planners, hikers, or anyone looking for the most competitive pricing at each tier—for those travellers, Income, FWD, or Great Eastern GREAT TravelCare are likely stronger choices.
