Just casually scrolling on social media, there are tons of posts of friends and family going on getaways. They’re back in Japan to savour sushi, off on a cruise to nowhere, or just over the Causeway for a one-day getaway. There are also those who prefer to chill in Singapore, but make this season special with a luxurious staycay (that’s well worth the amount spent!).
For me, an ideal staycay with my other half should be somewhere romantic and non-negotiables are what we can’t really get in our HDB flat — a comfy King-sized bed, deep-soaking bathtub and the full amenities of a top hotel brand. It should also be in a location that’s far removed from where I usually hang out, preferably with resort feels to make it an exceptional experience.
I know my friends, especially those with kids, appreciate the same, so their little ones can roll around on the big bed, have a bubble bath and explore a new environment. It’s also hassle-free for the parents if all the meals are provided (full board) so they can just concentrate on keeping their family entertained.

A Magnifique retreat right that doesn’t feel like it’s in Singapore
Apart from Sofitel Singapore Sentosa’s palatial resort grounds and Bali-nesque vibes, the rooms are spacious for Singapore standards starting at 36 sqm, with balcony, King-sized bed, exquisite decorative flourishes like flower-shaped knobs and gold embellishments — and not to mention the generous soaking bathtub.
There are a few room categories to choose from, with some overlooking the garden (you might see the free-roaming peacocks!). These encompass a Junior Suite, Prestige Suite, Prestige Family Suite, Imperial Suite and even a private villa (just four available on the whole property).
What’s also unique is that pawrents can bring their pets along to Sofitel Singapore Sentosa for the resort’s Furkid Retreat. This package includes a night stay, breakfast buffet and dinner for two adults (you can dine at Kwee Zeen’s alfresco area or in the comfort of your room), a pet amenity basket, pet bed and bowl, and even upgrade to the Royal Furkid Retreat to have breakfast on the only dog cruise in Singapore.
Those opting to just laze away at the resort and not worry about venturing out to the rest of Sentosa to jostle with others for food can get the full board package, which includes breakfast, lunch and dinner at The Cliff and the all-day-dining venue Kwee Zeen…a pretty good deal! There’s also Le Bar for chill drinks and live music as the day winds down (not included in the package).
Having stayed at Sofitel Singapore Sentosa last December (a birthday surprise I purchased for my partner), the full board package was perfect as the sun was raging hot. So we chilled in the pool, had a scenic lunch (with peacocks) at The Cliff, went for the free fish foot spa, and took the connecting stairs down to the beach to enjoy the sunset. We had planned to borrow the bicycles provided but it was simply too sweltering, so we wound down by taking the complimentary hotel shuttle to HarbourFront to grab some chips (lol), before returning to Kwee Zeen for a Christmas-themed buffet dinner and capping off the night with a good soak in the tub.
The next day, we awoke to peacocks roaming outside our balcony window. Then, after strolling around the resort grounds, we had breakfast at Kwee Zeen, before retreating to our room to use the last of our bath bombs before checking out. There were quite a few pet owners and their furkids on the resort grounds, which was quite cute; while families brought along massive bags filled with swimgear and water toys for their kiddos.
There’s also an award-winning Sofitel Spa on site with an outdoor cascading waterfall pool (and the complimentary hotel shuttle bus will take you there directly), but we didn’t try it although hotel guests can get a discount. There’s also the gym (Sofitel Fitness) for you to maintain your fitness regime and Villa Des Enfants for the little ones.
