Laundry services in Singapore are growing in popularity, perhaps because doing laundry is one of life’s most terrible chores, right next to ironing. (Dishes, I can tolerate. Mopping, I find therapeutic. But dirty clothes and linen? Yuck.)
Banish the images of expensive dry cleaners and depressing coin laundry shops from your mind. These days, you can take your pick from online and offline laundromats in Singapore offering competitive rates, and some even collect and deliver your laundry for free.

LaundryMart ($2/kg express service)
While looking up neighbourhood laundromats, we came across LaundryMart, which is one of the better coin laundry chains. In addition to the usual coin-operated machines ($5 for 10kg), LaundryMart also has a full laundry service.
LaundryMart’s express laundry service costs just $20 for 10kg, which works out to $2/kg. Your items will be washed, dried, folded and ready for collection in 2 hours, or so they promise. The downside is that there aren’t a lot of locations.
LaundryMart also does dry cleaning, where they charge by the item. You can see their dry cleaning price list here.

Piing is an on-demand service, so when you place an order they’ll come to you within the hour and return your laundry by the next day. Pickup and delivery is free, and delivery times stretch from 1pm to 11pm, perfect for workaholic Singaporeans.

Mr Dobi Laundry Services ($4/kg)
The adorably named Mr Dobi Laundry Services has been around since 1940 (yes, before independence!) so they must know what they’re doing.
They also have some of the most affordable rates in town for wash & fold laundry: $4/kg, though it’s subject to a minimum order of $20 for 5kg. Ironing costs an extra $3. The drawback is that free collection & delivery is only for orders above $40, which is a tad steep.

Isn’t it cheaper to use a coin laundry?
If your washing machine has died from overuse, your cheapest option is actually one of those 24-hour coin-operated laundry shops in the heartlands.
But the problem with washing at a coin laundry is that it’s actually WORSE than doing your own laundry at home. Not only do you have to carry your laundry back and forth yourself (if you think that load is heavy now, just imagine them wet), you also need to sit there for hours waiting for the washing to complete.
We enquired at 2 popular chains, WonderWash and DIY Laundry-Coin, and found that the market rate is typically $5 for an 11kg load inclusive of detergent. That works out to less than $0.50/kg.
However, it’s the drying that will kill you – it usually costs about $1/5 min. An hour of drying is therefore… a lot of $1 coins. You’ll probably want to lug that wet laundry home to dry after all.
