laundry services singapore 2018

There are a few constants in life, and one of those is household chores—specifically, laundry.

As much as I look forward to the weekend, there’s still my stanky pile of unwashed clothes from the week that needs to be done. And with Singapore’s perpetually humid weather, that’s a whole lot of laundry.

It’s already tiring enough to wash and hang clothes, but when you have bed sheets, blankets, curtains or other large items, it’s a whole workout in itself. Or you could have clothing that requires special care.

Fortunately, there are now more coin laundry services, or laundromats, in Singapore when you simply have no time. Some even collect and deliver your laundry for free! Here’s our pick of affordable laundry services in Singapore:

LaundryMart ($3/kg express service)

While looking up neighbourhood laundromats, I came across LaundryMart, which is one of the better coin laundry chains. In addition to the usual coin-operated machines ($5 for 10kg), LaundryMart also has a full laundry service.

LaundryMart’s express laundry service costs $30 for 10kg, which works out to $3/kg. Their promise is to have your items washed, dried, folded and ready for collection. There are 5 locations in total, although 3 are in town, so you may have to lug your laundry to work. If not, you can top up $50 for express delivery islandwide.

LaundryMart also has dry cleaning services available 24 hours. The company charges by the item and promises a 2-day turnaround for normal clothes. Check out the dry cleaning price list here.

Mr Dobi Laundry Services ($4/kg)

Established in 1940, Mr Dobi Laundry Services sure knows what it’s doing.

And at just $4/kg for wash and fold and wash and iron services, it’s quite a steal. There are also dry cleaning services from $6 for a shirt. For those who need to wash larger items such as curtains, carpets, bed sheets, rugs, mattresses, blankets, etc, there’s a separate price list on the website.

The only downside is that it’s located in Yishun, so unless you live nearby or drive, it may not be the best option for you.

Location: 848 Yishun St 81, #01-128, Singapore 760848, Tel: 9176 4012

Eazihome also offers a handy price calculator that gives you an estimated cost based on the service – dry cleaning, laundry or ironing – and delivery time (standard or express) that you need.

With prices starting from $3 per item or $34.90 for 6kg ($5.82/kg) of laundry, you get free delivery to your door at a scheduled time of your choosing. What’s more, Laundryheap promises a 24-hour turnaround time.

All you need to do is book via the Laundryheap app and schedule a collection and delivery day of your choice. It’s especially useful for those who don’t have too much to wash or need some emergency washing done quickly.

Piing ($5.95/kg wash & fold)

As its name suggests, Piing is an on-demand laundry service where you just ping for laundry pickup on its app, and someone will come take your dirty clothes for washing. You can ping for laundry pick up anytime between 1 pm – 11 pm from Monday to Saturday.

Regular delivery takes 3 days, while express delivery takes 1 day and costs $7.95/kg. Check out the rest of Piing’s prices here.

Piing also does dry cleaning and even has green dry cleaning, which is slightly more expensive, but great for those who want their clothes washed with eco-friendly and gentle chemical-free liquids.

For the Love of Laundry ($6/kg)

A company that prides itself on being eco-friendly, For the Love of Laundry uses toxin-free liquid silicone called Green Earth. It claims to be the only company in Singapore to use this brand, which is gentle on delicate fabrics and makes your clothes feel cleaner, look better and last longer.

Unlike regular laundry solutions, liquid silicone degrades into sand and trace amounts of water and carbon dioxide, which makes it safe for the environment – and you.

Isn’t it cheaper to use a coin laundry?

If your washing machine has suddenly spoiled or you just die die don’t want to do your laundry, your cheapest option would be a coin laundry shop in the heartlands.

While cheap, it may not always be the most efficient because you still have to lug all your laundry back and forth, and wait for hours for the washing AND drying.

I checked 2 popular chains WonderWash and DIY Laundry-Coin, and found that the market rate is typically $5 for an 11kg load inclusive of detergent. That works out to less than $0.50/kg.

However, it’s the drying that will kill you… It usually costs about $1/5 min. An hour of drying is therefore… a lot of $1 coins. It’s probably better to just hang your clothes at home. But that would mean more chores.
