Allianz Motor Protect Car Insurance Review Singapore (2026)

Allianz Motor Protect Car Insurance Review Singapore (2026)

Ask 10 Singaporean drivers to name a motor insurer and you’ll probably hear Income, MSIG or AIG. Allianz? Probably not the first name that comes to mind, even though it’s one of the world’s biggest insurers.

That could be changing. Allianz has been steadily expanding its presence in Singapore with a US$2.09 billion move to buy HSBC Life Singapore in July 2026.

Its motor insurance offering, Allianz Motor Protect, also comes with some perks worth a closer look, including a lifetime repair warranty and a dedicated EV plan.

Though, is it worth paying more for? We dig into the different tiers, fine print, EV-specific cover and, most importantly, whether Allianz Motor Protect actually makes sense for you.

1. Allianz car insurance Singapore: plan overview

Operating in close to 70 countries, Allianz is one of the powerhouses in the world by revenue. In Singapore, it's been building its credibility serving consumers, picking up three awards at the Asia Consumer Insurance Awards 2026.

Allianz Motor Protect comes in three coverage tiers, depending on how much protection you want:

Tier

Purpose

Comprehensive

Fullest cover: your own car damage, plus third-party, fire and theft, plus the perks

Third-Party, Fire & Theft (TPFT)

Third-party liability, plus fire and theft of your own car

Third-Party Only (TPO)

Legal liability to other people and their property only

Most owners will probably go for the Comprehensive plan, since it's the only tier that pays for damages and repairs after an at-fault accident.

For older cars, paying extra for comprehensive cover may not always make sense. Any payout is pegged to the car's market value, which may be low enough that the higher premium isn’t worth committing to. Hence, the TPFT or TPO might be a cost-effective alternative.

2. What's covered and what isn't

Here's how the cover stacks up based on Allianz's factsheet.

Benefit

TPO

TPFT

Comprehensive

Third-party property damage

✓ up to S$5,000,000

Legal representation costs

✓ up to S$3,000

Fire & theft of your car

Own accidental damage

Towing

up to S$500

up to S$500

Taxi reimbursement

up to S$100

up to S$100

New-for-old replacement car

✓ (cars under 2 years, total loss)

Courtesy car during repairs

✓ up to 10 days

Daily transport allowance

S$50/day, max 10 days

24/7 roadside assistance

Lifetime repair warranty

✓ (authorised workshops)

Good news for frequent drivers to neighbouring countries. You're covered in West Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur, Melaca, Penang) and up to 80km past the Malaysia–Thailand border, handy for the JB grocery run or a road trip further north.

Optional add-ons:

  • NCD Protector so one claim doesn't wipe out your No Claim Discount (needs existing NCD of 30%+).
  • Repairs at Any Workshop if you'd rather not be limited to Allianz's authorised list.
  • Personal Accident & Medical, covering death or permanent disability of S$50,000 for you and S$25,000 for passengers, plus medical bills up to S$1,000 per passenger.

Every motor insurance policy has its exclusions, and Allianz is no exception. The major ones to watch include driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, driving without a valid licence for the vehicle, or having someone who isn’t a named driver behind the wheel. Normal wear and tear isn’t covered either, nor is using the car for racing or track use.

The full list is in the policy wording. It’s worth giving a quick read before committing. Discovering an exclusion when you’re making a claim is probably the worst time to find out.

3. Key features and benefits

A few Allianz perks stand out, especially since you won’t find them with every insurer:

  • Lifetime repair warranty. Get your car repaired at an Allianz-authorised workshop and the workmanship is covered for as long as you own the car. Handy if you plan to keep the car for years.
  • New-for-old replacement. If your car is less than two years old and is written off, Allianz replaces it with a brand-new equivalent instead of paying out based on its depreciated value.
  • 24/7 roadside assistance. Flat battery, punctured tyre, or a breakdown at 2am on the PIE? Comprehensive cover includes round-the-clock assistance with towing, up to S$500.
  • Regional cover built in. The cover extends to West Malaysia and up to 80km into Thailand.

Most of these perks are only available with the Comprehensive plan, so don’t assume the cheaper tiers come with the same benefits. Repairs are also subject to Allianz’s approved workshop network. Want the flexibility to choose your go-to workshop? You’d have to pay extra for that add-on.

How much you actually pay also comes down to two things: your excess and your NCD. Here’s how they work.

4. Excess, NCD and premium factors

Three terms decide a big chunk of your premium and payout. Quick plain-English version:

Excess

Your excess is what you pay out of pocket before Allianz covers the rest. Windscreen claims have a fixed S$100 excess, while accident claims vary based on your age, driving profile and car.

In general, higher excess means lower premium, and vice versa. Pricier cars typically come with a higher excess, with higher expected cost for repairs.

No Claim Discount (NCD)

Your NCD rewards you for staying claim-free. Accumulate discounts up to 50% off your premium with each claim-free year. Make a claim and your NCD can drop by 30% at renewal.

Already have NCD with another insurer? Allianz offers a NCD transfer, provided you’ve been claim-free for the past three years.

Important: Report accidents within 24 hours or the next working day. Report late and Allianz can cut your NCD by an extra 10%, even if the other driver was at fault.

Premium factors

These are the main factors that can affect your premium:

  • Your age and driving experience
  • Your car’s make, model, age and value
  • Your claims history and NCD
  • How you use your car and the excess you choose

Based on these factors, two drivers can be offered different prices for the same plan. Moreover, the numbers are adjusted if you drive an EV, which comes under a separate plan entirely.

5. Allianz Electric Motor Protect: EV coverage

An EV isn't just a petrol car with a battery. Instead of adding EV cover onto the standard motor plan, Allianz offers a dedicated Allianz Electric Motor Protect policy.

This comes timely, with EVs now making up the majority of new car registrations in Singapore—and bringing its own set of risks that petrol car insurance wasn’t designed for.

You still pick from the same three tiers. However, the EV plan adds cover for the parts of electric car ownership that standard petrol-car policies weren’t designed for:

  • Battery and EV parts: Covers the battery, electric motor, cables, and control units
  • Home charger: Covers your home charging point and accessories, plus damage to your home and your liability if the charger starts a fire.
  • Public charger: Up to S$50,000 for injury or car damage while using a public charging station.
  • Charging cable: Up to S$300 to replace a stolen or damaged portable charging cable.
  • Cyber-attack cover: Covers certain losses from hacking or cyber-attacks, with cover maintained when using driver-assistance features (ADAS).
  • Flat-battery help: If you run out of charge, Allianz will tow you to the nearest charging point or workshop, up to S$500.

A standard petrol car policy won't cover any of these EV-specific risks, leaving some expensive components and situations uncovered.

6. How to make a claim

Allianz keeps its motor claims fairly standard. Here's how the process works:

  1. Report within 24 hours (or the next working day) at an Allianz authorised workshop, even if you weren't at fault. Miss this window and you lose 10% of your NCD.
  2. Tell the police immediately if your car is stolen or involved in any criminal act.
  3. Notify Allianz of any third-party claim or legal notification immediately, and submit the full set of documents within 14 days.
  4. Call the Allianz Contact Centre at 6222 1919 (Mon to Fri, 9am to 5pm), or write an email to [email protected] for help.

Documents for submission: NRIC, driver’s licence, vehicle log card, police report (where applicable), photos of the damage to vehicle and the scene of accident, and Allianz's accident report form.

If there’s one step you don’t want to mess up, it’s the 24-hour reporting window. Save your nearest Allianz authorised workshop in your phone. Hopefully, you’ll never need it, but it’s always handy on the backburner.

That sums up the claims process. Now, how does Allianz stack up against the competition?

7. Allianz vs other car insurers in Singapore

No single insurer is the best fit for everyone. Your car, age, and claims history can impact your premium. The cheapest insurer for someone else may cost you more. Here’s how Allianz compares with other insurers:

Standout perks reflect each insurer's current published features; exact terms, tiers and EV options differ, so check the specific policy. Premiums are quote-dependent.

The upside: Allianz packs in some useful extras, from a lifetime repair warranty to new-for-old replacement for newer cars and dedicated EV cover.

The trade-off: You may pay more, and your choice of workshop is limited unless you top up. Some insurers can offer greater workshop flexibility for more competitive rates.

8. Is Allianz Motor Protect worth it?

It really comes down to the car you drive. Got a newer or pricier car? Perks like new-for-old replacement and a lifetime repair warranty can make a difference when things go wrong. For EV drivers, it’s worth looking for specific cover than relying on a few EV add-ons.

If you’re just looking for more cost effective cover? Perhaps consider digital insurers.
