Universal Studios Singapore (USS) is a lot of fun – if you’re a 5-year old who likes Shrek or Madagascar. Honestly, without the Battlestar Galactica Roller Coaster, USS doesn’t offer enough value to justify the $36 to $74 price tag for a 1-day ticket.

That’s unfortunate, because the Battlestar Galactica Roller Coaster was one of the only rides worth the price of admission at USS. But as the ancient saying goes – “to judge a theme park, one must judge it by its best ride.” And I’m sorry, but Revenge of the Mummy™ or TRANSFORMERS the Ride just don’t cut it.

almost feel bad for comparing USS to other theme parks mentioned in the article because it’s a bit unsporting, kind of like kicking a downed opponent. But it must be done!

Here are 5 theme parks oversea that completely destroy USS in the fun department:

1.  Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World Resort

Welcome to the most visited theme park in the world.
Welcome to the most visited theme park in the world.

Saying that Magic Kingdom is the MOST VISITED theme park in the world kind of says enough right? 17+ million annual visitors aside, it’s hard to choose the “best” ride for this theme park, because there are so many terrific rides available.

But I can say from personal experience that the indoor roller coaster Space Mountain is worth the price of admission.

Location: Lake Buena Vista, Florida (United States)

Ticket Cost: 1-day ticket is $116.54 SGD (age 3-9) or $124.06 SGD (age 10+)

Best Ride: Space Mountain

Here’s a video clip of the ride with the lights on (it’s much better with the lights off):

2. DisneyLand Park at DisneyLand Paris

If it doesn't have a castle, it's not Disney.
If it doesn’t have a castle, it’s not Disney.

DisneyLand Paris is another of the world’s most visited theme parks, with 11+ million visitors a year. Much like Magic Kingdom above, DisneyLand Paris suffers from one major problem – too many good rides to choose from!

Following the success of the U.S. ride with the same name, the French introduced Space Mountain: Mission 2. Much like its U.S. counterpart, it’s a ride with plenty of twists, turns, and excitement (as well as a warning for those with pre-existing heart conditions).

Location: Paris, France

Ticket Cost: 1-day ticket is $93.98 SGD (age 3-11) or $104.01 SGD (age 12+)

Best Ride: Space Mountain: Mission 2

3. Ocean Park in Hong Kong

Yep, Ocean Park is the closest you'll get to Disney without having to fly 10 hours to get there.
Yep, Ocean Park is the closest you’ll get to Disney without having to fly 10 hours to get there.

The best theme parks in the world aren’t just in the U.S. or Europe. Ocean Park in Hong Kong brings more than 7 million visitors a year, outperforming Hong Kong DisneyLand (too much “Disney” on this list anyway right?).

This marine-animal theme park has many attractions, but the ride that makes the affordable admission price worth it is the “The Hair Raiser,” a floorless roller coaster that accelerates up to 88km an hour.

Location: Hong Kong

Ticket Cost: 1-day ticket is $25.86 SGD (age 3-11) or $51.71 SGD (age 12+)

Best Ride: The Hair Raiser

4. Universal Studios Japan

Yeah, it's Universal Studios Japan after all.
Yeah, it’s Universal Studios Japan after all.

Universal Studios is a good chain of theme parks that provides a reasonable amount of entertainment for the amount of money you pay. And compared to USS, Universal Studios Japan (USJ) offers much more value by comparison, with more 3D/simulator type rides and a major roller coaster that actually works.

It’s tough choosing which ride is the best at USJ, but between the Hollywood Dream roller coaster and The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man, I’d have to go with “Spidey.” It’s an award winning 3D ride that’s been recently refurbished with better projectors.

Location: Osaka, Japan

Ticket Cost: 1-day ticket is $85.82 SGD (age 4-11) or $60.00 SGD (age 12+) or $77.09 SGD (age 65+)

Best Ride: The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man

5. Everland Resort

Visiting Everland is like seeing several theme parks in one, AND it has one of the world's best roller coasters.
Visiting Everland is like seeing several theme parks in one, AND it has one of the world’s best roller coasters.

Everland (not to be confused by Michael Jackson’s “Neverland”) is South Korea’s largest and most visited theme park with nearly 7 million visitors annually. This park is like several parks in one – it has a zoo, theme park rides, and even has a water park.

Unlike the other parks mentioned above, choosing the best ride is a no-brainer. T Express, ranked as one of the world’s best roller coasters, is DEFINITELY worth the price of admission – it’s a beast!

Location: Yongin, Gyeonngi-Do (South Korea)

Ticket Cost: 1-day ticket is $43.31 SGD (age 3-12 & 65+) or $55.34 SGD (age 12+)

Best Ride: T Express
