ANZ is relative newcomer when it comes to the area of credit cards, but they’ve certainly not come in just to be bystanders. The suite of ANZ credit cards might be relatively small compared to the larger consumer banks in Singapore, but that doesn’t mean that they don’t have anything to offer.

Also, given Singaporeans’ great love for travelling to cities from Down Under, coupled with a huge Singaporean student population there, some of these cards are worth seriously considering if you travel to Australia or New Zealand often. Here’s our take on ANZ’s best credit cards:

1. Best Overall Card – ANZ Switch Platinum Credit Card

When ANZ introduced the ANZ Switch Platinum Credit Card, they might have known something we didn’t: that Singaporeans love to roll over their credit. As such, with a low interest rate of 1.83% per month, this comes in as one of the most competitive interest rates for a credit card, especially at a time when banks are raising their interest rates. Did we mention this card has no annual fees?

Age requirements: 21 years and above

Min. Income: For Singaporeans and PRs, minimum annual income of S$30,000. For foreigners, minimum annual income to qualify is S$60,000.

Annual Fee: The principal card carries no annual fees.

Rewards Points Accrual Rate: Usual rewards points rates go at $5 = 1 point. With ANZ’s accelerator program, you can earn 6X rewards points on grocery, movie and petrol spend.

Other Benefits: Up to 17.95% discount on the ANZ StarCash Card when you purchase the prepaid card with your ANZ Credit Card.

What You Can Get With a Monthly Spend of $1,500:

With the reward points accelerator, you could accrue 1,800 points in a month which can get you:

  • A pair of Shaw Movie Tickets (1,100 points)
  • $30 Charles & Keith Voucher (1,500 points)
  • Irodori Japanese Restaurant $30 Voucher (1,500 points)

Who This Is Good For: For someone looking for a multi-purpose card for spending, this is the card in the ANZ suite to get. For people choosing one card out of the lot, most of the times this is the card of choice. And it’s pretty clear to see why.

2. For Air Miles – ANZ Travel Visa Signature Card

If you happen to travel to Australia and New Zealand often, be it to visit children who are studying there or for business, the ANZ Travel Visa Signature Card is definitely one useful card to get to quickly accrue air miles.

With a crazy 2.8 miles for every dollar spent on your holidays for direct flight bookings with Qantas and Jetstar airlines or retail spend in Australia and New Zealand, this is one of the best cards on the market for air miles accrual overseas.

Age requirements: 21 years and above

Min. Income: For Singaporeans and PRs, minimum annual income of S$60,000. For foreigners, minimum annual income to qualify is S$90,000.

Annual Fee: $200.00 (inclusive of GST). The card comes with a 1 year annual fee waiver.

Miles Accrual Rate: Earn 2.8 air miles per S$1 spent on your holiday plans for direct flight bookings with Qantas and Jetstar airlines or retail spend in Australia and New Zealand. For spend anywhere else, earn 1.4 air miles per S$1 spent.

Other Benefits: 10,000 bonus miles upon annual renewal and 2,000 bonus miles for the first $500 spent. Also, you have the option of converting your air miles to rewards points or Cash Credit.

What You Can Get With a Monthly Spend of $1,500: A nice short holiday to Australia with $1,500 in expenditure can get you 4,200 air miles. Assuming a total of 50,400 (4,200 x 12) air miles in a year, this should easily get you a return trip ticket around the region.

Who This Is Good For: For frequent travellers to Australia or New Zealand, this card is pretty much a no-brainer if you are trying to accrue air miles. But that aside, the basic accrual rate of $1 = 1.4 air miles isn’t too shabby either. Coupled with complimentary airport lounge access, limousine services and travel insurance, this is definitely not a travel card to overlook.

3. For Online and Overseas Spend – ANZ Platinum MasterCard Credit Card

ANZ Platinum Card

The ANZ Platinum MasterCard Credit Card bears some similarities to the ANZ Switch Platinum Card in that it has similar reward points accelerator functions, but one of the other benefits it does have is an accelerator that rewards online and overseas spend.

Age requirements: 21 years and above

Min. Income: For Singaporeans and PRs, minimum annual income of S$30,000. For foreigners, minimum annual income to qualify is S$60,000.

Annual Fee: $160.00 (inclusive of GST). The card comes with a 1 year annual fee waiver.

Rewards Points Accrual Rate: Similar to the Switch Platinum, S$5 = 1 reward point. Double your rewards points when you shop online or when you charge your purchases in any currency other than Singapore Dollars.

Other Benefits: With ANZ’s accelerator program, you can earn 6X rewards points on grocery, movie and petrol spend. You also enjoy the same 17.95% discount on the ANZ StarCash Card when you purchase the prepaid card with your ANZ Credit Card.

Who This Is Good For: If you’re someone who loves collecting rewards points and does a lot of online shopping, this is a great card that rewards you for that. Of course the core promotion of 6X reward points accrual is a great pull factor as well.
